A Community Built on Shared Experience
Empowered Explant was created through the need for women to be empowered with the knowledge and self-awareness to make the best decision for their own unique breast implant removal journey.
We are all on a similar journey, and yet our circumstances are often uniquely different.
Our community does not discriminate, shame, or push one agenda. We welcome all women because we all have a shared mission, and that is to remove our breast implants safely, heal well, and become the healthiest version of ourselves.
To do that, we are here to support you to:
-
Become informed
-
Understand your options
-
Make the best choices for you
-
Set realistic expectations
-
Commit to yourself and your health
We are here to support women who are explanting because of breast implant illness, complications such as rupture or capsular contracture, or lifestyle changes. Our mission is to help women feel empowered to ask questions, seek support, get informed, address their fears and worries, take control of the future of their health, and ultimately find true inner-peace and self-love. This is your journey, there is no one-size-fits-all, but there is a path forward that can help all women navigate their breast implant removal with less stress and more clarity and confidence - this is explanting the empowered way.

The woman behind the mission
Hi, I'm Darnah Mercieca. At twenty-three years old, I chose to get breast implants to feel better about myself after my husband was unfaithful. This turned out to be an expensive lesson.
Seven years later I began experiencing strange symptoms and from there they worsened until I didn't even feel like myself anymore. The worst being brain fog, chronic fatigue, migraine, difficulty stringing together sentences, heart palpitations, anxiety, numbness and tingling down my arm, and joint pain.
I learned about breast implant illness from a brave woman sharing her story publicly (the reason I share mine today), and spent over a year researching before booking my explant surgery.
Here I was, a certified integrative nutrition health coach, and yet I had never heard of breast implants causing such illness. I had my explant surgery on November 11, 2021 and within weeks my symptoms started to clear and, gradually, I felt like myself again. It was a journey and I used every tool in my health coach toolbox to prepare and heal.
I'm thankful everyday for that brave woman who shared her story, because explanting gave me my life back.
Now, I'm a woman in my mid-thirties with a very different perspective on what's important in life. I've taken on the personal mission to raise awareness and support as many women as I can on their journey to explant and heal ⏤ physically and emotionally.
And, ultimately, my deepest hope is to bring awareness to the woman who hasn't put implants in her body yet. To show her that changing the appearance of her breasts is not the answer to improving her self-esteem or love life. To save her from the pain, the illness, the expense, the physical and emotional trauma of ever choosing this path, and give her the gift of finding self-love.
Whatever choice she makes, it's hers, and it's my goal to help her make an informed one.
That's the empowered way. Thanks for being here with me, breasties!
